Bullitt – 1968 Ford Mustang GT

Blog-image-Bullitt-Mustang

There were two Mustangs prepared for the movie Bullitt, the ‘hero’ car and the stunt car. The hero Bullitt Mustang sold earlier this year for US$3.4 million and the new owner has confirmed the car will not be restored. In its current state, it bears the scars from filming the famous car chase scenes in 1968 and decades of daily use. The car was purchased 1974 and became a daily driver for several years, eventually being hidden away until 2018. The stunt car was discovered in Mexico in 2017, unfortunately I haven’t sleuthed out it’s full story yet.

1960 Corvette

Blog-image-60-Corvette

You know that mid-life crisis thing – go out and buy yourself a sports car only to find you’re still miserable? Kind of embarrassing too when you’re out there on the driveway on Sunday morning giving it a polish – the neighbours walk past with the dog thinking ‘Tragic’ and you’re thinking ‘I know they’re thinking ‘Tragic’ and they’re thinking ‘he’s thinking we’re thinking tragic’ … Yeah well anyway, you can have a nice sports car in the privacy of your own bedroom and not be embarrassed at all – simple as buying a print and framing it. Only one thing though, it will be better all round if you hang it on the wall and don’t prop it up on the pillow next to yours. I’m sure we are on the same page.

1955 Chevrolet Corvette

The TWA Flight Centre was designed by Aaro Saarinen and opened in 1962. Over time, the ever increasing numbers of passengers became too much and, along with the airline’s demise in fortunes, the terminal was eventually closed. In 2019 it re-opened as a hotel, and having stayed there in early 2020, I can say it is exceptional. Next time you visit New York, enter or exit the city via JFK and treat yourself to a night or two. Now I think about it, forget New York and just stay at the hotel for two weeks, it has everything you need: although you don’t need much, just a good coffee or pinot while you sit day after day, gawping at the architecture. I’d like to tell you we cruised up to the TWA in this little red Corvette, but I don’t think you’d believe me. But then, we might have.
