The TWA Flight Centre was designed by Aaro Saarinen and opened in 1962. Over time, the ever increasing numbers of passengers became too much and, along with the airline’s demise in fortunes, the terminal was eventually closed. In 2019 it re-opened as a hotel, and having stayed there in early 2020, I can say it is exceptional. Next time you visit New York, enter or exit the city via JFK and treat yourself to a night or two. Now I think about it, forget New York and just stay at the hotel for two weeks, it has everything you need: although you don’t need much, just a good coffee or pinot while you sit day after day, gawping at the architecture. I’d like to tell you we cruised up to the TWA in this little red Corvette, but I don’t think you’d believe me. But then, we might have.
